What Is a Mummy Makeover?
The mummy makeover, or mommy makeover (depending on which side of the Atlantic you’re on), is a term used to refer to several different surgical procedures, normally all performed during the same session of surgery.
It can also be defined simply as plastic surgery in combination, post-pregnancy.
Depending on your combined treatments and the medical team the procedures can be carried out simultaneously or consecutively.
Abdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck
Abdominal plasty, medically known as abdominal plasty, may help if your stomach has become stretched after pregnancy and/or later weight gain.
Often, once the skin has lost its elasticity, it does not just recover in shape, and no amount of exercise or diet can change that.
With abdominal plasty the surgeon can eliminate that excess loose skin, leaving your belly flat and smooth again.
Physicians deploy various techniques used during surgery, which may depend on the surgeon's preferences as well as the patient's situation and aesthetic objectives.Your surgeon will try to hide incisions in areas that are barely visible, for example, where scars can be hidden under clothing, like bikini stockings.
Partial Tummy Tuck:
-
Under general anesthetic, a large incision is made on the lower abdomen, allowing the surgeon to separate the detached skin from the abdominal wall.
-
Excess fat can also be removed by a liposuction machine, and excess skin can be removed by specialized instruments.
-
To finish the operation, the skin flaps are tucked together and sewn into place. The area will be covered.
Full Tummy Tuck:
-
For a complete abdominoplasty, the incision through the stomach is longer, usually between the hips. A second cut is also used around the navel, essentially releasing the surrounding tissue.
-
The skin is separated from the abdominal wall, and excess tissue is cut off to create a firmer, flatter stomach.
-
To get rid of excess fat cells, liposuction can also be used.
-
As part of a complete abdominoplasty, the abdominal muscles are also aligned to help shape the figure.
-
It is also possible to reposition the navel in the right place, then sew it back up with the surrounding skin flaps.
-
As with the partial fold, the remaining skin flaps are tucked together and sewn back before being banded.
Abdominoplasty surgery may take between 2 and 5 hours (including anesthesia and surgery) depending on the complexity of the procedure. However, a team of surgeons may be able to perform the intervention at the same time as other surgeries during a mummy metamorphosis.
Liposuction
Liposuction (lipo) helps to eliminate stubborn fat deposits that remain after pregnancy and later weight gain, provided that these areas do not respond well to a low-calorie diet and exercise.
Common areas that liposuction can be used on include the abdomen (as part of a tummy tuck), hips, thighs, arms and even the face.
Performed under general anaesthesia, this method decomposes (and then aspirates) excess fat cells through:
-
High-frequency vibrations
-
A low-power laser pulse
-
A high-pressure water jet device
It is possible that you will be administered local anesthesia (that numbs only the affected area), IV sedation (to relax you deeply–you might sleep or be in a twilight state), or general anesthesia, where you will be totally asleep for the duration of the procedure.
The safest and most common technique for liposuction is the use of micro-cannulas measuring approximately 2.8 mm, enabling the surgeon to perform controlled and detailed work.
Fat cells are infused with a mixture of saline solution, local anesthetic and adrenalin. This combination increases safety, facilitates the withdrawal process and makes recovery less uncomfortable.
Lasers and ultrasound equipment can help with the procedure of micro-cannula liposuction. The laser method and ultrasonic cavitation method work to dissolve grease, making the tissue easier to extract by cannula.
Breast Lift
A breast lift is in the context of a mummy metamorphosis could be just the thing to reverse the effects of pregnancy and lactation.
The breasts can be restored to their old cheerful position and plump form with a procedure known as mastopexy that essentially lifts the sagging breasts.
Note that a breast facelift alone does not add volume, even if the breasts may look a bit rounder. In the same way, the procedure is not designed to decrease the size, with liposuction only removing a minimum amount of excess fat.
For those who wish to change size, in some cases a breast enlargement (with implants) or breast reduction can be combined with a breast facelift.
Please note that a breast lift may take 1-3 hours (including anesthesia and surgery).
Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is used to reduce the size of breasts by suppressing excess fatty tissue and skin.
It can also be combined with a breast lift to obtain a more comfortable position, as well as liposuction and abdominoplasty in the context of a mummy makeover.
Breast Augmentation (Implants)
Breast implantation is among the most common plastic surgical procedures in the world. Millions of women each year achieve a larger and more complete cut size with silicone implants or saline solution.
There may be incisions under the breast tissue, under the armpit or around the areola.
In the same way, a boob job can be combined with a breast lift and other surgeries designed to help women regain their shape before pregnancy.
How Long Is the Recovery Time?
-
You should be prepared to feel very uncomfortable after surgery for several days, and your movements can be rigid and restricted.
-
You will be given analgesics to overcome the worst, which you can continue after coming home.
-
After the swelling and bruising begins to decrease, your movements will increase and you will begin to feel much better.
-
It can take several weeks for you to begin your daily routine.
It will be around six weeks before vigorous exercise and strenuous activities, including heavy lifting, can be resumed.
